1 - 3 hours depending on client approval and system availability. For same day processing applications must be submitted by no later than 3:00 pm to allow for preparation, review and submission to the Ontario Business Registry.

CANCEL a Business Registration

Cancel one of the following Business Name types: Sole Proprietorship, General Partnership, Business Name for a Corporation, Ontario Limited Liability Partnership, Extra-Provincial Limited Liability Partnership and an Extra-Provincial Limited Liability Company.

A business name is valid for 5 years. If your business ceases to operate, you may cancel your business name registration.  If you wish to file a cancellation, it must be filed prior to the expiry date set out on the registration.

1. Contact Information
Please enter the full name, telephone number and email address of the contact person. This will not be shown on the public record. The ministry will contact this person for any questions related to this application. Documents related to this application will be sent to the contact person’s email address.

2. Entity Type – You must select your entity type from the drop-down list.

• Business Name for a Corporation
• Business Name for a General Partnership
• Business Name for a Limited Partnership
• Business Name for a Sole Proprietorship
• Extra-Provincial Limited Liability Company Name
• Firm Name for an Extra-Provincial Limited Liability Partnership
• Firm Name for a General Partnership
• Firm Name for an Ontario Limited Liability Partnership

3. Cancellation Confirmation
The contact person must confirm the cancellation of the business or firm name and acknowledge that all business names that have been registered under a firm name will be cancelled, and if the firm name is a partner in a partnership in the ministry records, it will no longer be shown as a partner.

We will need the company key to verify that you are authorized to file this cancellation.

 *NOW IN EFFECT: As of February 1, 2025, the Company Key is required to make changes to a business entity registered with the Ontario Business Registry (OBR). 

4. Authorization
The required person must authorize the cancellation.

5. Confirmation
The contact person must confirm the accuracy of the information submitted.

The application forms are dynamic and will change depending on how you answer the questions.  Please complete all mandatory fields that are marked with an asterisk (*).  Once the application is successfully processed, the official documents and will be sent by email to the official email address provided on the form and to the contact person specified.  The company key, if applicable will only be sent to the official email address.

  3. Complete the form, save the data, and close it. Then open again to see if the input data is there.
