AMEND a Business Registration

Change information on a business registration by filing an Amendment under the Business Names Act (BNA).

Here is what can be changed:

  • business address or principal place of business
  • primary business activity
  • official email address
  • changes to partners (as long as one original partner remains on record)

Description

Sole Proprietorships: If there are changes to the sole proprietor’s address, primary activity of the business, or the principal place of business address, you must update your registration within 15 days after the change by filing an amendment under the Business Names Act (BNA). (no government fees apply)

General Partnerships: If there are changes to the primary activity, address of principal place of business or partners of the firm, you must update your registration within 15 days after the change by filing an amendment (no government fees apply). Please note that a change of your firm name or a complete change of partners requires a NEW business registration. (government fees apply)

  • If the general partner is a corporation or partnership and there is a change in information regarding the general partner that has already been filed under this Act or another Act (e.g. Business Corporations Act) and the Registrar appointed under the Business Names Act (BNA) has issued a Certificate of Registration showing the change, an amended registration does not need to be filed. The ministry will update the information and a copy of the Certificate of Registration will be emailed to the official email address on file.

  2. Open the form that you saved on the desktop with Adobe Reader. Do not double-click to open the PDF form as Adobe Reader might not be the default program to open PDFs on your computer.
  3. Complete the form, save the data, and close it. Then open again to see if the input data is there.

Processing Time

For same day service, we ask that applications be submitted by 3:00 pm to allow for review, preparation and filing of the documents with the Ontario Business Registry.  You will be notified if same day processing times cannot be met.
